"Stupid Is As Stupid Does" (Forrest Gump)

As we were sipping the Gewurztraminer Dick bought from an Ashland winery and waiting for our entrees to arrive at dinner last night, Cindy said "You do have the theatre tickets, right?". (Answer: "Uh, no, don't you?" ).

While Stupido Riccardo could have dashed back to the hotel (only a 5 minute drive) to fetch the ducats, that would have meant giving up our terrific parking spot right outside the restaurant and a short walk from the theatre. High-tech saved Dick that trip. At Cindy's sage suggestion Dick made a quick cellphone call to the Festival office to confess His Error, and got a reprieve: The box office would simply reprint our tickets from its computer anytime before the curtain rose.

"Stupid is As Stupid Does" also describes the lead character in "Tartuffe". He cleverly ingratiates himself into the good graces of Orgon, a weathly Parisian, deftly avoids (for a time) getting tossed out on his ear for making "advances" to Orlon's wife, nearly snags the old man's daughter at the altar, and convinces the old fool to had over the "deed to the ranch" to him. But like all true villains, he gets his comeuppance at the end when no less than the King of France personally has him carted off to prison to answer for his misdeeds.
